An Italian or Balkan troopers hanger dating to the late end of the 17th century, I have seen these described as crossbowmen sidearms but I believe these are more into the realm of being other ranks sidearms during the age of gunpowder. This example has a really attractive sideways S guard with fluted tips, the blade has a broad short slight curved profile with a single fuller. The grip has some losses but retains the original wooden grip. The sword has been polished by the previous owner.
