Large South American Bowie

This bowie knife is one of the archetypal South American bowies manufactured in Germany in the late 19th Century. It is a beak gripped oversized tool and weapon, the perfect mix of weapon and machete.

This blade is by the German blademaker Fernando Esser and is numbered as the 450th of this run, the highest serial number I have found is 841.

The blade is stamped with the Fernando Esser rearing horse logo, its factory marks ‘FERNANDO ESSER, ELBERFELD, ACERO FUNDIDO ,RANTIZADO’, the ‘ACERO FUNDIDO’ is exceptionally interesting as it is the mark of crucible steel.

The blade also bears faint acid etchings on the blade also with the company logo and name.

This bowie can be yours for £295 or best offer.
