A very nice steel hilt French fantasie sabre dating by the inspectors mark to the 1850's.

These swords made for foreign service were custom swords for those who felt like they may actually need to use their sidearm, a swordsman's sword for more than just standing guard in dress uniform.

Usually carried by officers if Zouave Regiments or the Chasseurs d'Afrique who as well as wanting a more practical sword, wanted something to set them apart from the mainland French army.

This piece, made in St Etienne was produced by Felix Escoffier a sword maker and gunsmith who became the director of the St Etienne Arsenal.

This sword can be yours for 525GBP or best offer.
