This lance head with its armour piercing tip and hollow ground blade is one of my favourite Indian pieces as it combines art with something that is absolutely combat effective. These lance heads did not change much in the history of their use and saw service on a grander scale than in the wider world since lancers remained militarily relevant on the Indian subcontinent longer.
After some gentle cleaning and an etch it appears the tip has a grain making it a wootz or pattern welded section much like the carbon steel tip on the wootz Anglo Indian sabre in my article on trophy weapons.
This example is one of the better ones I have seen with very little wear and all original gold remaining, there is some minor staining to the hollow ground sections of blade.
This piece can be yours for £1100 or best offer.
