This sword is an elegant and deadly example of an early to mid 18th century gentleman sidearm.
The hilt is unhallmarked silver in the French style with the iconic dotwork stippling to give depth to the arabesque baroque designs on the guard, pommel and quillon, interestingly the knucklebow is plain.
Showing on the blade is curiously the remains of etching in addition to the remains of engraving showing this blades undeniable quality if it had this treatment before it was common on sword blades.
