These axes are extremely rare and come from 18th century Southern India, an area I am fascinated by historically due to the conflicts against the colonial powers that bloodied the nose of the British EIC and forced them to bring more and more soldiers to India. This axes thick head is a real hewing weapon, it is meant to cleave and damage armoured and unarmoured targets alike, it is weighted rather forward and is on a long haft compared to its head size. The axe has a fair amount of remaining silver koftgari concentrated on the spike, haft and one side of the axe head.
The rear of the axe is missing its fitting as is quite common with axes of this type.
This axe can be yours for £400 or best offer.
