As a completely impartial lover of antique weapons I have to say the French innovations in gunsmithing in the 19th century are fascinating and made some of the greatest pieces in the world from the humble revolver to the large artillery pieces.
The French Chassepot was the first in this line of needle fire Breech loaders and in 1874 these were converted under the watch of Colonel Basile Gras to make the M1874 and finally these were reinforced in 1880 with all of these M80 models having a reinforced breech, whilst these were replaced as the current service rifle in 1886 these were still found on the battlefield into World War One. This piece can be yours for £575 or best offer.
