An unique French non-regulation three-bar sabre, this is one of the fantasies style of combat sabres often associated with Colonial or foreign service within the French Empire.
This sabre has a five-bar all-steel guard of delicate proportions with reinforced ribs in the style of what would later be called an 1882 French sabre.
The blade has a diamond cross-section and marked to Coulaux et Cie faintly. Overall the piece is in near-mint condition.
