1798 Dated EIC Type A Bess Conversion £875

A rather wonderful Brown Bess conversion for the East India Company. Starting in the first half of the 19th Century the Company Converted all of their current pieces up to standard for percussion caps and sold the excess out of service. The musket lock was produced by Mortimer in 1798 and converted to percussion in 1839 by the East India Company to be one of their Type A muskets, the Type A and B muskets were all updated Brown Bess muskets. The markings are “95 16 6 39 187” on the right hand side, these appear to represent unit/conversion date/rack number.

This musket was exported from the Jaipur Arsenal in the mid 20th Century. This musket can be yours for £875 or best offer.
